1 Vindicate me, my God,
and plead my cause
against an unfaithful nation.
Rescue me from those who are
deceitful and wicked.
2 You are God my stronghold.
Why have you rejected me?
Why must I go about mourning,
oppressed by the enemy?
3 Send me your light and your faithful care,
let them lead me;
let them bring me to your holy mountain,
to the place where you dwell.
4 Then I will go to the altar of God,
to God, my joy and my delight.
I will praise you with the lyre,
O God, my God.
5 Why, my soul, are you downcast?
Why so disturbed within me?
Put your hope in God,
for I will yet praise him,
my Savior and my God.
Psalm 43:5 “Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.”
This psalm begins with a low note asking God to fight against the wicked men and being downcast and feeling rejected. But it ends on a high note, praising God.
Notice the increasing proximity the psalmist has to God.
First, he asks God to send forth light and truth for guidance. Next, he is led to God’s holy mountain, the place God dwells. Then the psalmist goes to the altar of God – his joy and delight. Finally, he praises God with the harp.
This is how we are to deal with the many voices and damaging whispers of the world system and the enemy of God.
We are to preach to ourselves that God delivers us from all these objections and attacks.
When we are engage in evangelizing the unsaved, we are sure to meet such opposition, even from our very selves. Yes that’s right we have the capacity to sabotage our own selves.
But God’s Word is clear.
We are to stand firm on the Word and preach first to ourselves and praise the Lord who is our Savior and our God.
